To Make A Donation
Giving Directly to FCS:
You can help us to help others by making a tax-deductible donation to Family & Children’s Services, Inc. This will enable us to continue our mission to ensure that people who need our services and are unable to pay for them will receive the care and treatment they so desperately need.
As you may be aware, Family & Children’s Services is a 501(c)(3) charity, and we base client co-pays on family size and income. Routinely, our lowest fee per hour is about $10.00. Many of our consumers have difficulty in making even a token payment; but due to the help of the United Way of Allen County, grants, and people like you, we can make a difference.
So many places are able to say that a certain amount of money will help them clothe a child, feed them a meal or even put a roof over their heads. What we provide is also very important but hard to see. We can teach a child that: • they are valued; • they can be happy; • they do not need to fear adults; • they can have healthy relationships; • and they do not deserve to be hurt by grownups.
We can help people to: • improve their relationships with others; • process grief and loss; • improve the quality of life; • make changes, if needed; • and quit using drugs and alcohol.
These folks need your help; and your donation, big or small, will help to help them.
We know that due to unmet mental health needs, people lose their jobs, become homeless, behave violently towards others, and consume drugs and alcohol.
We can help to reverse these practices.

Giving Through the Fort Wayne Community Foundation:
One can give to Family & Children’s Services through the Fort Wayne Community Foundation, and the Foundation will also donate a 20% match.
The money is placed into our account where the principal is used to generate interest. We have historically let the interest stay in the account in an effort to increase the value of the account.
A goal is to be able to, at some point in the future, budget the interest from this account to be a significant and stable fund to help us carry out our mission. We recognize that every single donation moves us in this direction, no matter the size.
Donations can be sent directly to the Fort Wayne Community Foundation with a letter designating Family & Children’s Services, Inc., or simply put our name on the memo line of the check to designate what fund they will deposit the donation to.
Donations can also be sent directly to Family & Children’s Services, Inc. Donations designated to our fund at the Fort Wayne Community Foundation will be forwarded.
Many people are finding that in addition to their normal charitable giving, donations to help their targeted organizations in the future are extremely beneficial.
Have you considered a charitable annuity? A charitable annuity is a contract between you and the Fort Wayne Community Foundation, who processes annuities for us. You make a gift to the Fort Wayne Community Foundation, and the Foundation will pay you a guaranteed income – an annuity – for as long as you live. At the termination of the annuity, the remaining assets go the Family & Children’s Services Endowment Fund.
With a gift annuity, not only do you receive an income stream guaranteed by all of the assets of Fort Wayne Community Foundation, but you can also claim a charitable deduction for part of the value of the assets given. If you give appreciated assets, the capital gain is partially avoided and partially spread out over your life expectancy. A portion of the payments you receive may also be tax-free.
Many of us are unaware of the benefits of making a charitable gift in a will. But such planned gifts can enable you to continue to help people in need or support a cause close to your heart after you’re gone.
If you have questions about this process, you can call your attorney; or if you are interested, Neil Anderson at the Fort Wayne Community Foundation can assist you. Neil’s phone number is 260-426-4083 ext. 304. You can e-mail Neil at nanderson@fwcfoundation.org.

Current Needs
As you may know, many of our consumers are either unemployed or underemployed. Although this is not a requirement for our services, for many of our folks, we are an affordable option to receive quality services. Each person who pays a co-pay based on their family size and income--- about 95% of our consumers---leaves us with a deficit that we try to make up through grants, United Way allocations, and personal donations. Given this fact, financial donations at any level are greatly appreciated and help to cover the expense associated with high quality counseling services.
We also have a “Wish List” that includes:
• Tempra Paints for play therapy
• Finger paints for play therapy
• Newspaper print for play therapy
• DVD player for group presentations
For a more extensive list or if you have questions, please contact Sharon Dunn @ 744-4326.
