Current Needs
As you may know, many of our consumers are either unemployed or underemployed. Although this is not a requirement for our services, for many of our folks, we are an affordable option to receive quality services. Each person who pays a co-pay based on their family size and income - about 95% of our consumers - leaves us with a deficit that we try to make up through grants, United Way allocations, and personal donations. Given this fact, financial donations at any level are greatly appreciated and help to cover the expense associated with high quality counseling services.
We also have a “Wish List” that includes:
-

Donor Bill of Rights
Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes that they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:
- To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
- To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
- To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
- To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
- To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
- To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
- To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
- To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
- To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
- To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
NAP Tax Credits
Did you know that your tax deductible donation to Family and Children’s Services, Inc. may also qualify for a tax credit on your Indiana state tax return?
Family and Children’s Services has been awarded tax credits as part of the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) to benefit our counseling programs. For every dollar you donate under this program to Family and Children’s Services ($100 minimum), you will receive 50 percent of your contribution as a direct tax credit on your Indiana state income tax return. Unlike a federal tax deduction, these credits can be applied to your Indiana state tax liability.
Additionally, because Family and Children’s Services is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, any contribution to Family and Children’s Services may also be taken as a federal tax deduction (consult your tax advisor for advice about your particular situation).
Tax credits are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. All you need to do is complete the enclosed NC-10 form, sign, and return it with your donation (check or credit card) and the completed donation card to Family and Children’s Services. If you are filing a joint return, please complete the NC-10 form using the “Head of Household’s” information. If your donation is received after the tax credits have been assigned, you will be notified immediately.
This is a wonderful opportunity to help support the programs of Family and Children’s Services and to get a real tax savings in the process.
Gratefully,
Stephen A. Jarrell,
Executive Director/CEO
Note: If you are interested in this opportunity, contact Stephen Jarrell or Sharon Dunn at 260-744-4326 to make sure credits are still available.
